Attic Insulation Removal and Installation in Chino Hills

Contaminated insulation comes out, the attic gets sealed and sanitized, and new insulation goes in. One local crew, in that order, and never before the rodents are gone.

Attic insulation that has to be replaced after rodents in Chino Hills rarely wore out. It was ruined. Rats and mice move through attic insulation like a tunnel system, and by the time you are on the ladder with a flashlight, the batts are matted, stained, and threaded with runways.

That is why our insulation work sits inside a rodent company rather than a general insulation contractor. Removal, sealing, and the new install happen as one job, in the right order, because fresh insulation in an attic with an open entry point is money spent twice.

Signs your attic insulation is contaminated or underperforming

Partial removal or the whole layer? Patchy contamination can be cut out and topped up. A season or more of rodent activity usually means the whole layer comes out. We tell you which at the inspection, with photos. The sanitizing side lives on our attic cleanup page.

Our insulation removal and installation process

The order is the method. Skip a step and the new insulation becomes expensive nesting material.

Why we seal before we reinsulate

Insulation is not a rodent deterrent. Rats and mice love it. It is warm, it holds a nest, and it hides them. A fresh layer in an attic with a gap still open at the eaves is restocking the pantry and leaving the back door open.

So the sealing happens first, and it happens without poison. A poisoned rat crawls into the insulation to die, and now the new layer smells worse than the old one. We trap, we remove, we close the building with steel, and only then does the blower come out. If rodents are still active, start with rat removal and the insulation becomes the last step of the same job. The sealing work is described on our rodent proofing page.

Air sealing

Air sealing is the part of an insulation job most homeowners have never heard of. Before the new insulation goes down, we seal the small gaps between the attic and the rooms below: wall top plates, plumbing and wiring penetrations, the gap around the flue, and the attic hatch itself.

Those gaps let conditioned air leak into the attic, which is why the upstairs never quite cools down, and they are the same routes mice use to get from the attic into the walls. Closing them helps the insulation work and takes away the highway. We recommend it on every full replacement and list it in the written quote so you can see what is in scope.

Duct replacement

Flexible ducting is soft and warm, and rodents chew through the jacket and nest in the lining. Once that happens the duct is pulling air across droppings and urine and pushing it into the bedrooms. A chewed flex duct cannot realistically be cleaned. It gets replaced.

At the inspection we check every run for chew marks, crushed sections, and disconnected boots. Damaged runs are replaced and sealed at the connections. If the equipment itself has a problem, we say so and refer you to an HVAC contractor.

Radiant barrier installation

Chino Hills summers put a lot of heat into a roof deck, and the roof radiates it down into the attic all afternoon. A radiant barrier is a reflective sheet fixed to the underside of the rafters that turns much of that heat back before it reaches the insulation and the ceiling below.

It is not a substitute for insulation and it does little in winter. In our inland climate it makes the most sense in attics with ductwork running through them, because the ducts stop cooking. We offer it as an option on top of a replacement and tell you honestly whether your attic is a candidate.

What insulation replacement costs in Chino Hills

We do not quote insulation over the phone. The price depends on the attic floor area, how much of the old material is contaminated, the insulation going in, and whether air sealing or ducts are in the scope.

The inspection is free, the findings are yours to keep, and the written quote is the number we work from.

Safety and materials

Contaminated insulation is handled under containment with HEPA filtration and full protective gear, and it leaves the property bagged and sealed. The attic is disinfected before anything new goes in.

For the new layer we match the insulation type to the attic, usually a blown in product for an existing home, and put the type and depth in the written quote. No poison is left in the attic, so there is nothing for a pet or a child to find.

What the inspection covers

Roughly an hour, and you get the findings either way.

Every sealing job comes with a warranty

Every home we rodent proof and seal gets a warranty on that work. Ask us for the terms at your free inspection.

Attic insulation FAQ

Not once urine has soaked into it. Droppings on the surface can be vacuumed off, but urine wicks through the fibers and the smell and bacteria stay. Small patches can be cut out and the rest kept. A season or more of activity usually means the whole layer comes out.

Usually a blown in product for an existing attic, because it fills irregular bays evenly. We confirm the exact material and depth in the written quote.

Our inland climate calls for more insulation than most older homes here were built with. We measure what you have, compare it against the current California energy code target for this climate zone, and put the recommended depth in writing.

Closing the small gaps between the attic and the living space before the insulation goes in. If your upstairs never holds temperature, or mice were getting from the attic into the walls, yes.

When the jacket is chewed open, the lining has been nested in, or a run is crushed or disconnected. A chewed flex duct cannot be cleaned to a standard we would put our name on.

In summer, yes, particularly when ducts run through the attic. It does little in winter and never replaces proper insulation, so we treat it as an add on.

No. We are rodent specialists. Rats, mice, and the damage they leave behind. We do not treat insects, termites, bed bugs, cockroaches, or mosquitoes. A general pest control company is the right call for those.
